Legion of Honor, Chapel of the Four Chaplains Awards

Application deadline for our Legion of Honor from the Chapel of the Four Chaplains is February 10 2012, to the Department Second Vice Commander.  I must have the documents (typed preferred) for submission to their organization prior to our program, giving them enough lead time to prepare the documents.

Information on criteria and application can be found at:

http://www.fourchaplains.org/programs.html        the first award.

Application:  A typed page of accomplishments can be added.

R.O.T.C.

Schools wishing to participate MUST notify me by March 15, 2012. They will have until April 15th to provide the specifics on the member being honored.   This way we can hold that date and make appropriate arrangements for the presentations throughout the Department.

The medals are on order and we should have enough for the department based on history.

A.A.D.A.A.

The A.A.D.A.A. program can be found on the page link below.

The Department criteria is the same as National's, except for deadlines.

Entry forms are on that site as well.  There is one entry for all grades.

Entries, both posters and written, one for each grade/post, should be in the Department by June 1, or the first day of our Annual Convention, whichever is later, for consideration.  Originals are required, no copies.

The Department will have gift cards for 1st place winners, in each grade, and will forward the Department winners to National.  The Gift Cards will be distributed, to the sponsoring Posts, after National Convention.

Two short recommendations:  Do not have the child's name on the front, type or print the personal information on an extra page and attach it to the back of the entry.

Americanism:

There are 3 entries, based on grade.

Entries, both posters and written, one for each grade/Post, should be in the Department by June 1, or the first day of our Annual Convention whichever is later, for consideration. Originals are required, no copies.

The Department Criteria are the same as National's, except for the deadline.

The Department will have appropriate gift cards for 1st place Department winners in each grade, and will forward the Department winners to National.  These will be distributed, to the sponsoring Posts, after National Convention.

Reminder, the Department 9th grade winner gets a Trip to National's Youth Leadership Conference held at Freedom's Foundation, Valley Forge, PA

The amount of the gift cards is on a sliding scale based on how many grades entries are submitted.  If there are no winners in certain grades then the amount for that grade may be used to supplement other grades.  The amount is not known until the judging and winners are chosen.

Due to the Gloucester Program finally being reviewed, for what we are paying for, some of the funds allocated for this year’s winners are being spent there.  Later in the year we will move Program funds around to replace that part of the budget.

This program will be evaluated in the Spring and will be adjusted so that, one school does not receive more in funds for their winners ( and multiple runner ups # 40)  than the entire state. It was too late to adjust this year’s presentation (in November).  The Department does not pay for runner up positions.

Two short recommendations:  Do not have the child's name on the front. Type or print the personal information on an extra page and attach it to the back of the entry.

SILVER HELMET:

http://amvets.org/pdfs/SilverHelmet-Nomination-Form.pdf

Silver Helmet Awards are a National Program Event . Jack Wolf can discuss this with you about the workings of that committee, since he was a member for 5 years.

The only entry which MUST go through the nominee's Post and Department is AMVET OF THE YEAR, which should be in the Department by June 1 (or first day of our Annual Department Convention which is later) for review and submission to the National Organization for their Judging.

The presentations are held in the Spring of the following year, coinciding with our Spring NEC meeting, held the follow year (Winners announced August 2011 are presented Spring 2012).  This is a formal, black tie or suit event.

Please advice the programs Vice Commander if you have any entries.

The Department had a winner under AMERICANISM 2 years ago with the Gloucester School Program, and a few years prior, Jack Wolf, as National AMVET of the YEAR,

AMVETS Employer of the Year:

The criteria and application information is available at National's web site:

The criteria and Application are on the link listed.  Deadline is July 15 of each year.  Winner is announced at the National Annual Convention.  This is NOT run by Programs but from the National Service Foundation.  Please let the Programs Vice Commander know if there is a entry being submitted.
